Skinning

Postby raven » Thu Dec 13, 2007 9:14 am

Where's a good place to find out how to pelt skin (?) a yote? I've had some Taxidermy schooling, but not sure if it would be the same or not.....

Fur Handling

Postby PREDATIM » Fri Dec 14, 2007 6:33 pm

Raven6,

There is a video that is made by Blaine Eddy called "Hunting & Skinning for Profit"

The video covers the entire process: tools/equipment, skinning/casing the animal, turning the ears, rinsing/washing the hide, fleshing, sewing, stretchers, drying process, airbrushing, and tips on what buyers are looking for in a quality fur. Blaine demonstrates the entire process from start to finish on one fairly rough looking coyote. The finished product looked like a million bucks. If you've got any questions at all regarding fur handling, I believe this video has more than likely got an answer. I'd recommend buying yourself a copy.

It looks like Allpredatorcalls.com is sold out of them but there must be other places that carry it........

I did a little looking around and found this:

Cost is $22.95 plus $4.95 shipping/handling.

You may want to get a hold of him before you send out the money, hope this helps..........

Guys, I know a lot of the members here found the forum and bookmarked it for reference. What I also find is that many members and visitors seldom realize there is more to the site.

I didn't stroll through the video/dvd section other than to grab the link but there are two pages of vids starting here

These products change and rotate according to availability. In fact all the product pages change in the same manner so, if there's something here today it could be gone tommorrow without notice. Of course there may also be new products. I don't handle the product feed updates as that is done automatically through Cabelas but, if there's something specific you think should be included just let me know. I'll do what I can to get those items.
What you do in the dark will someday come to light.

Fitter,

If you can locate a source for this video it would be a good thing to add it to the library. I think it would be beneficial to all who want to know how to properly put up fur for the market.

Thanks,
